SUV Crashes Into Elwood Carvel; Driver Hospitalized
The vehicle crashed into the storefront on Wednesday evening.
A driver was hospitalized after their SUV crashed into a Carvel storefront in the Elwood Shopping Center on Wednesday evening, fire officials say.
About 40 Dix Hills firefighters and rescue personnel responded to the scene of the crash, located on East Jericho Turnpike near the border of Elwood and East Northport, at about 7:30 p.m.
The driver of the SUV was taken to Huntington Hospital by Dix Hills Rescue Squad to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

There were no injuries reported inside the store, officials say.
Firefighters removed the remaining glass from the storefront and secured the scene. The Town of Huntington Building Inspector was also requested to respond to assess the damage to the structure.

Units were at the scene with four engines, two ambulances and a paramedic unit. Units were under the direction of Chief Tom Napolitano and Assistant Chiefs Alan Berkowitz and Brett Tepe, according to PIO Steve Silverman.
