Long Island's YMCA branches are running a food drive through the end of July to support Long Island Cares.

All campers, members and other Long Islanders are encouraged to bring in items for the drive.

“We are trying to teach our children about giving back to others,” said Eileen Knauer,  executive director and regional vice president of the YMCA of Huntington.

“This is a good fit for the Y and it really falls into our mission of youth development and social responsibility.”

Long Island Cares, Inc. provides nutritional food and support services for a network of more than 540 community-based member agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, child care programs, disability organizations, veteran services and more.
