Ossining Board Signs Mary Fox-Alter Through 2026-27 School Year
New Contract Removes 'Interim' Status From Her Role as District Superintendent

The Ossining Board of Education is delighted to announce that Ms. Mary Fox-Alter has agreed to a new employment contract that will run through June 30, 2027. She will serve as the district’s official (non-interim) Superintendent of Schools, thereby maintaining effective leadership that has been integral to the district’s success.
An exceptional school leader in Westchester for many years, Ms. Fox-Alter joined Ossining as Interim Superintendent in July 2023. She had retired in 2021 after 11 years as Superintendent of the Pleasantville UFSD, whereupon she began serving as a monitor of the East Ramapo Central School District through a special appointment by the New York State Commissioner of Education before joining Ossining UFSD.
“The Board is unanimous in its belief that Ms. Fox-Alter has made an extraordinary impact on our school district over these past 18 months, and we are honored that she has agreed to continue to serve as our Superintendent of Schools,” said Board of Education President Christine Mangiamele. “Ms. Fox-Alter rolled up her sleeves with our consultants, employees, students, and community members to pass a transformational bond project that will expand our facilities to best meet the needs of our students. We are confident that she is the right person to carry out the initial implementation of this voter-approved work and strengthen administrative systems to ensure a smooth transition when the time comes.”

“Ossining is a wonderful community, and I am honored that the Board of Education has the confidence in me to continue leading this proud school district for the next three years,” said Ms. Fox-Alter. “Every day I come to work excited for the challenges that we are tackling, and that’s because the people of this school community are inspiring to partner with on the educational journey of their children.”
Ms. Fox-Alter is keenly focused on strengthening the processes and structures that support curriculum and programs critical to Ossining’s students’ success. “Our goal must be to ensure that we can maintain the programs our students need and deserve with fidelity,” she said. “The Board believes in this vision, and I look forward to working with these dedicated community members to help our district grow and thrive.”

At the conclusion of this contract, the board anticipates that Ms. Fox-Alter will retire from Ossining, which will allow ample time to conduct a broad search for the next superintendent inclusive of all stakeholder feedback. That process is expected to begin Spring 2026.
