Creativity Takes Center Stage: OHS Students Win Big at State Art Contest

41 Students Honored with Exemplary Art Awards; Two Earn Prestigious President's Art Award

Ossining High School continues to distinguish itself in the arts, with 41 digital arts students receiving recognition in the Annual New York State Media Arts Teachers Association (NYSMATA) Art Contest. Each year, students in Ms. Yoojin Lin and Mr. Ron Whitehead’s classes submit work in categories such as photography, graphic design, and digital illustration. Both educators also serve as judges for other schools across the state.

This year, 41 students earned the Exemplary Art Award, a distinction that recognizes outstanding creative work and technical proficiency. In addition, two students received the highly selective President’s Art Award, one of the top honors in the competition:

The winning artwork spanned a wide range of subjects and style, from striking cityscapes and serene nature photography to bold graphic design posters and imaginative digital illustrations. Students explored themes of identity, environment, and community, using digital tools to bring their creative visions to life with originality and technical skill.

“Our students continue to amaze us with their creativity, thoughtfulness, and the way they use digital tools to express powerful ideas,” said Ms. Lin. “Their success in this contest is a reflection of their hard work and willingness to take risks as artists.”

“This recognition reflects the strength of our arts program and the dedication of our educators,” added Kate Mathews, Director of Cultural Arts. “We’re thrilled to see so many students recognized for their talent and vision.”

The Ossining Union Free School District remains deeply committed to providing students with enriching opportunities in the arts. This latest recognition underscores the impact of creative learning and the district’s investment in nurturing the next generation of artists, designers, and storytellers.
