HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Coronavirus cases, hospitalizations and deaths have plummeted in New York, but the economic recovery has been jagged. Only one of the three metro areas that make up the Hudson Valley outpaced the state as a whole in the creation of private-sector jobs over the past year, the New York Labor Department reported Thursday.

The 8.1 percent increase in Kingston was almost 3 percentage points higher than the national average of 5.2 percent and better than the state's overall rate of 6.4 percent.

The Dutchess-Putnam and Orange-Rockland-Westchester metro areas did not fare as well, with increases of 3.7 percent and 3.2 percent respectively.
