Expect A Sunny Labor Day Weekend In The Hudson Valley

Temperatures will rise into next week.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The weather forecast for the region reminds us that summer isn't over until the third week in September. Temperatures will climb over Labor Day weekend — and beyond.

"Dare I say HEAT WAVE?" Bruce Furbeck of First Due Weather wrote on Facebook. "Humid conditions return Sunday and persist for the upcoming week. It gets hot too with highs finally making it into the 90s. We haven’t been at 90°F or hotter since July 29th. We never reached 90°F during August."

Extreme weather elsewhere is having an impact, though.

Gov. Kathy Hochul directed State Parks to suspend swimming at Long Island ocean beaches due to flooding and rough surf conditions resulting from Hurricane Franklin.

"As peak hurricane season approaches, the safety of all New Yorkers remains my top priority," she said in an announcement. "With tropical storms and hurricanes affecting our beaches on Long Island, we are taking proactive steps to protect New Yorkers, and I urge everyone to remain vigilant."

The restrictions are expected to be in place at Robert Moses, Hither Hills and Jones Beach State Parks as long as adverse conditions persist. All three ocean beaches experienced significant water levels Wednesday, including flooding at the Jones Beach beachfront and unpassable areas at Robert Moses and Hither Hills.

Lifeguards remain on duty to prevent anyone from entering the water. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will continue monitoring conditions across state parks
