Hudson Valley Private Sector Strong, Jobs-Wise: NY Labor Report
Outside New York City, the unemployment rate held constant at 2.9 percent in June.
NEW YORK — The job market continued to be hot in the Hudson Valley in June, according to recent data from the New York State Department of Labor.
Outside of New York City, the unemployment rate held constant at 2.9 percent, its lowest rate on records dating back to 1976. Statewide, the unemployment held constant at 3.9 percent.
New York state has gained private sector jobs in the past 12 months. Job growth was substantial in New York City and the Orange-Rockland-Westchester metro area: 3.9 percent and 2.1 percent respectively. The Dutchess-Putnam and Kingston metro areas barely lost private sector jobs, only by 0.6 and 0.4 percent.

The number of private sector jobs in New York State is based on a payroll survey of New York businesses conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Monthly payroll employment estimates are preliminary and subject to revision as more complete data become available the following month. The BLS calculates New York State’s unemployment rate based partly upon the results of the monthly Current Population Survey (CPS) of approximately 3,100 households in the State.
