Officials Warn About Mail 'Fishing' At Croton-On-Hudson Post Office

In the early hours of Sept. 13, Croton-on-Hudson police were notified that a pair was fishing mail out of the blue mailbox .

During the early hours of September 13, 2025, the Croton-on-Hudson Police Department was notified that two individuals were observed "fishing" mail out of the blue mailbox at the Croton-on-Hudson Post Office on Maple Street. The individuals fled in a vehicle and the case is currently under investigation by the Detective Division.

A "fishing" scheme is used by criminals to steal mail out of the mailbox to find checks, money or credit cards. Checks will often be "washed" and rewritten for large sums of money.
