Ossining, Croton-Harmon Districts Consider Budgets

The Ossining and Croton-Harmon communities have a chance to weigh in on school budgets before voting on May 16.

OSSINING, NY—The Ossining and Croton-Harmon school districts are each considering their respective 2017-18 budgets.

Statewide school district budget elections take place May 16.

Ossining Union Free School District is proposing a $125,353,311 budget, which would result in a 2.1 percent tax levy increase.

The district is hosting an all-day budget workshop starting at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday, March 4, at Ossining High School Library at 29 South Highland Ave. in Ossining. A budget hearing will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 9 at the same location.

The preliminary budget for Croton-Harmon School District was presented in Februrary, followed by a review and a workshop. Thus far, a budget of up to $46,798,134 has been proposed, with a maximum allowable tax levy of 1.94 percent.

Croton-Harmon's Board of Education will host a "Budget Saturday" event from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 11. The budget will be adopted on April 6, and a public hearing on the budget will be held May 4, both at 7:30 p.m. All budget meetings take place in the Community Room at Croton-Harmon High School at 36 Old Post Road South in Croton-On-Hudson.

Both districts' tax levy increases fall within the mandated New York State tax cap set at 2.14 percent.
