Ossining High School’s Human Rights Club recently organized a successful drive to gather critical supplies for those impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton. Through the generous support of the school community, the club collected more than 540 essential items, including first aid supplies and personal care items. These donations were delivered to the AFYA Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to shipping essential medical supplies to communities in crisis around the world.

Among the items collected were baby formula, baby bottles, socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, bandages, menstrual pads, and first aid kits, helping to meet the urgent needs of those affected by the hurricanes. This initiative reflects the Human Rights Club’s mission to address humanitarian issues and advocate for social justice.

The Human Rights Club, a student-driven organization focused on human rights and social justice issues, empowers students to engage with current events and raise awareness within the school. Club members regularly lead presentations on human rights topics, host guest speakers, and organize initiatives to support humanitarian efforts locally and globally.

"There is no doubt that all around the world people are struggling way more than the students at Ossining High School,” said Kaymbri Wells, Club President. “Our Human Rights Club is put in a special position where we can use our resources to help others all around us and create a better place for them. This drive is just the start of what we can and plan to do. Our work continues because there will always be people to serve.”

Jade Frias Depool, Club Vice President, reflected on the club’s mission to raise awareness and provide aid.

“We conducted this drive to uphold our club's mission to spread awareness of issues like this hurricane's damages and to get more support for hurricane victims,” said Jade. “We also conducted this drive to help others in need.”

The AFYA Foundation’s work aligns closely with the club’s mission to advocate for human rights, filling a major gap in the global medical supply chain and addressing urgent humanitarian needs worldwide.
