Ossining Students Excel at WESEF, Earn Top Honors in Science Research

Senior Reese Caparelli Wins First Place and Advances to International Science Fair as Ossining Celebrates Widespread Success

Ossining High School students recently showcased their scientific talents at the Regeneron Westchester Science & Engineering Fair (WESEF), earning an impressive five first-place awards across multiple categories. Their success underscores the strength of Ossining’s Science Research Program and the dedication of both students and mentors.

Among the standout achievements, senior Reese Caparelli took first place for her groundbreaking research on the impact of road noise on bird communication. Her work has earned her an all-expenses-paid trip to the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Columbus, Ohio, this May. ISEF, often referred to as the Olympics of high school science competitions, brings together nearly 1,700 students from over 70 countries, competing for $9 million in awards. This year’s event marks the 75th anniversary of the prestigious competition.

While Ossining’s five first-place wins were a highlight, the district’s success at WESEF ran even deeper. Seven students secured second-place awards, four earned third place, and three took fourth place, while an additional 14 students received special awards. These achievements reflect the depth of talent and dedication across the Science Research Program.
