Nassau, Suffolk High School Graduation Rates For 2017

Students who fit into the white, Asian and not economically disadvantaged categories are most likely to graduate on time, data shows.

Graduation rates for students living in Nassau and Suffolk counties are about 10 percent higher than the state’s average, according to data provided by the New York State Department of Education.

While Long Island students more likely to receive their diplomas in four years, countywide graduation rates from 2016 to 2017 barely changed. The percentage of students who graduated on time in 2016 compared to 2017 decreased by 1 percent in both Nassau and Suffolk. Statewide, the graduation rate only increased by less than 1 percent.

  • Statewide: 80 percent
  • Nassau: 90 percent
  • Suffolk: 88 percent

School districts send updated graduation data to the state throughout the year. These results apply to students who first entered ninth grade in 2013 and graduated in June 2017.

Graduation rates are also divided up by gender, race, economically disadvantaged and more. The students who fit into the white, asian and not economically disadvantaged categories are most likely to graduate on time, data shows. Female students also have higher graduation rates than males.

Hispanic or Latino

  • Statewide: 68 percent
  • Nassau: 74 percent
  • Suffolk: 75 percent

General-Education Students

  • Statewide: 85 percent
  • Nassau: 92 percent
  • Suffolk: 91 percent

Students With Disabilities

  • Statewide: 54 percent
  • Nassau: 73 percent
  • Suffolk: 71 percent

Not Economically Disadvantaged

  • Statewide: 87 percent
  • Nassau: 93 percent
  • Suffolk: 93 percent

Economically Disadvantaged

  • Statewide: 73 percent
  • Nassau: 81 percent
  • Suffolk: 80 percent
