Old Westbury's New Police Chief Is Retired Suffolk Acting Commissioner
Stuart Cameron was sworn in as the village's chief this week, a year after retiring from the Suffolk County Police Department.

OLD WESTBURY, NY — A retired top Suffolk County police official took over as the Village of Old Westbury's police chief this week. Stuart Cameron was Suffolk County Police Department's acting police commissioner when he retired after 37 years in December 2021.
Now, he will oversee a much smaller police force. The Old Westbury Police Department has 35 members serving 4,700 residents, the village says. Because the village's environs contain two public high schools and three college campuses, the force serves at times a much bigger population. In 2021, the department received 6,100 calls.
Cameron, 60, also served as chief of department for Suffolk, the highest-ranked uniformed member of the police force.

Cameron shared some of his plans for the position in a statement:
"Although I worked in Suffolk County for many years, I am a lifelong resident of the Town of Oyster Bay, and have always lived nearby Old Westbury. I very much look forward to meeting the Village residents and learning more about this beautiful Village from the resident’s perspective," he said.

Cameron will host a series of community meetings to hear residents' concerns, capped at 20 attendees each. The first two will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31 in the Village DPW building, at 4 and 6:30 p.m. Those interested in attending should call 516-626-0800 to reserve a spot, he noted.
