Tuesday Rush Hour May Be a Mess on LIRR

Evening rush could impact the Oyster Bay line.

Rush hour service on the Long Island Railroad is expected to include cancellations and delays following the derailment inside an Amtrak East River Tunnel Monday.

That could impact the Oyster Bay Line, which runs through Glen Cove.

At mid-afternoon, LIRR service is operating on or close to schedule but that could change as the heavy volume of trains rush from Manhattan into Queens and outer Long Island, the MTA said.

LIRR forces worked throughout the night and morning to re-rail and clear the derailed cars. Amtrak is assessing track damage and making repairs to the track and switches at the derailment site. Check the MTA's website here for details during the evening rush.

The exact cause of last night's derailment is being investigated jointly by Amtrak, the Long Island Rail Road and the Federal Railroad Administration.
