Piper Theater Looking For Actors

Piper Theatre Productions, a 12-year-old 501(c)3 theatre company that produces free outdoor theatre at the in Washington Park, Park Slope, Brooklyn will be casting for its first musical production.

Xanadu, with a book by Douglas Carter Bean and Music and Lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, will be directed by Artistic Director John P. McEneny with Musical Direction by Megan Jonynas and choreography by Karen Curlee. Xanadu is a planned equity showcase. Each actor will receive a stipend of $500.00.

Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled in the evenings of 6/6, 6/7, 6/8, 6/11, 6/12, 6/13, 6/14, 6/15, 6/16, 6/19, 6/20, 6/24, 6/25, 6/26, 6/27, 6/28, 6/29, 6/30, 7/2 at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) 421 5th Ave. in Park Slope.

Performances are July 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Old Stone House.

Piper is seeking actors who can roller skate proficiently, sing, dance, and are comedic actors. Only actors with a sense of humor need apply.

Auditions are planned for April 9 & 10, noon to 8:00 p.m. at the Old Stone House, 336 3rd St. in Park Slope.

And callbacks / dance auditions are planned for April 11, noon to 8 p.m.

Please prepare a comedic monologue and a contemporary upbeat song. Actors who are invited back on April 11 will be asked to audition in roller skates or rollerblades for the choreographer.

Casting Males and Females.

Character Descriptions:

Kira (Clio): 20s-30s. The youngest of eight sisters, she is good-looking and perky. Killer pop/rock voice (pop soprano with strong mix to A). Must be able to rock a toga, be a skilled comedienne, and a great mover.

Sonny Malone: 20s-30s. Good-looking, energetic, naïve with a strong pop/rock voice (pop bari-tenor with strong extension or reinforced falsetto to E). Must be comfortable in 80s short-shorts. Must roller skate.

Danny Maguire / Zeus: Male, 40s-60s - baritone. Danny: Good-looking, straight-talking businessman with lots of heart.

Calliope / Aphrodite: Calliope is the sidekick to her evil sister Melpomene. We are seeking a skilled comedian with strong voice (rock pop belt to E flat). We are looking at ALL TYPES for this role. (Does not need to roller skate)

Melpomene / Medusa: Melpomene is one half of the sinister sister duo, opposite Calliope. Conniving and evil.

Erato and Euterpe: Women, 20s-30s. Attractive. Strong pop/rock voices (pop/rock soprano, alto) and great musicality needed. Both must be excellent dancers with very strong comedic ability. Tumbling, instruments, magic tricks, extreme flexibility, and clowning all pluses, roller skating is a MUST.

Thalia and Terpsichore: Men, 20s-30s. Attractive. Strong pop/rock voices (pop/rock tenor, baritone) and great musicality needed. Both must be excellent dancers with very strong comedic ability. Tap dancing, tumbling, instruments, magic tricks, extreme flexibility, and clowning all pluses, roller skating is a MUST.
