Assaults, Robberies On The Rise In Park Slope: NYPD Data
Some types of crime rose in Park Slope this month compared to a year ago, according to new police data.

PARK SLOPE, NY — Newly released NYPD data highlights a potential rise in crime in Park Slope, specifically in two major offense types.
Overall crime in Brooklyn dropped this October compared to the same time last year, according to NYPD data. However, the 71st Precinct — which covers parts of Crown Heights, Wingate, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens — saw one of the largest year-to-date spikes, with major crimes up by a staggering 53.6 percent.
In Park Slope, most major felonies reported this month dropped nearly seven percent compared to last year, but two categories bucked that trend. Felony assaults rose by 27.3 percent, while robberies increased by 16.7 percent, signaling pockets of concern despite an overall crime decrease.

The sharpest decline was seen in burglaries, which fell by half, from eight reported incidents last October to four this year.
Meanwhile, in the neighboring 77th Precinct, rape and grand larceny recorded the largest increases, rising 100 percent and 18.8 percent, respectively.

Despite some increases in assaults and robberies, Park Slope’s overall modest crime decrease contrasts with larger double-digit declines across all major crimes in affluent neighborhoods like the Upper East Side and Tribeca.
