BROOKLYN, NY — A violent explosion tore through the basement of a Brooklyn building late Sunday night, shaking the neighborhood and drawing an emergency response, officials said.

Members of the FDNY said the unexpected blast happened around 10:30 p.m. inside a two-story home on Empire Boulevard between Kingston and Albany avenues.

No injuries were reported, but the explosion caused property damage, officials said.

A video posted to the Citizen App showed emergency vehicles lining the street and a crowd of neighbors gathered outside the home shortly after the blast.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation by fire marshals as of Monday morning, according to officials.
