BREAKING: Power Outage at LaGuardia Airport Causing Flight Delays

Power went out at LGA's Terminal C around 4:30 a.m.

Update, 11 a.m.: Terminal C is, for the most part, up and running again. However, about 120 Delta flights were canceled due to the morning outage. Full instructions for Delta customers available here.

A Friday morning blackout at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is causing some incoming flights to be delayed for an average of three hours, according to the FAA.

“Due to power outages affecting airlines operating in Terminal C at LGA, flight disruptions may result,” says the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. ”Please check with your airline.”

In response to the outage, LaGuardia has issued a “traffic management program” for incoming flights. As of 6:50 a.m., “this is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 2 hours and 52 minutes,” says the FAA.

Con-Ed power to five switches at LGA shut off around 4:30 a.m.

”We are in the process of having temporary generators put in,” says a spokeswoman for the Port Authority. She says jetway operations are expected to get back to normal around 8:30 a.m.

The status of departing flights at LGA, however, is still unclear. Many people on the ground are reporting their flights have been canceled or delayed — particularly Delta Airlines flights. (The FAA, like the Port Authority, recommends you check with your airline for details.)
