Paris Attacks: NYPD Deploys Counterterrorism Forces Throughout NYC
Cops are guarding crowded areas and French government locations.

French media reported Friday evening that at least 120 people had been killed around 200 wounded in a series of violent and “unprecedented” attacks around Paris.
A live stream of breaking coverage from Paris can be viewed here.
“We stand prepared and ready to provide whatever assistance the government and the people of France need to respond,” U.S. President Barack Obama said at an evening press conference. (Video at the bottom of the page.)
In New York City, the NYPD announced around 6:30 p.m. Friday that it had deployed counterterrorism forces throughout the city “out of an abundance of caution.”
Below, the NYPD’s full statement on local efforts to maintain order.
“The NYPD is in close touch with our French police counterparts as well as our FBI partners here, following the tragic events in Paris. Out of an abundance of caution, as part of an enhanced counterterrorism overlay the Counterterrorism Bureau has made the following deployments: the NYPD Counterterrorism Response Command (CRC) resources as well as the Critical Response Group (SRG), and Hercules Teams have been dispatched to crowded areas around the city out of an abundance of caution to provide police presence, and public reassurance as we follow the developing situation overseas. Specific deployments, at French government locations in New York City, were made immediately after the attacks.
NYPD Intelligence Bureau Detectives in France are conducting liaison activities to assist the Paris Police in any way possible, while keeping the NYPD updated on the on-going situation.
There is no known indication that the attack has any nexus to New York City. We will continue to follow events closely and adjust our deployments accordingly.”
NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio issued the following statement in response to the attacks.
“The people of New York City are heartbroken to see our sister city of Paris shaken again by these thoughtless acts of violence, and we stand in solidarity with the residents of Paris and with Mayor Hidalgo during this tragic time. The victims of these horrific attacks, their families, and all the residents of Paris are in our hearts tonight. NYPD is in close contact with our international liaison in Paris and the local authorities and are closely monitoring the situation.”
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo also issued a statement, included below.
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I offer my thoughts and prayers to all those who have been affected by the attacks in Paris earlier today. These were tragic and senseless acts of violence that have claimed innocent lives and torn families apart – and my heart goes out to the loved ones of all who have been lost. As more details emerge, I want the people of Paris to know that just as the world has stood by New York in times of tragedy, today New York stands with you.
Tonight I have directed New York State law enforcement to remain vigilant in the wake of these senseless attacks. The New York State Police, the New York State Intelligence Center and the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services are actively monitoring the situation for any implications in New York State and remain in constant communication with their local and federal partners.”
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams issued his own statement shortly after.
“Brooklyn mourns the horrific brutality that has shaken Paris, and indeed the entire world. I pray for the safety of Parisians in this terrible hour and for swift justice upon those responsible for these inhumane atrocities. The global community will not allow the City of Light to be darkened by the scourge of terrorism; we stand united in providing whatever support we can to our fallen brothers and sisters across the Atlantic.”
The governor’s office reminded New Yorkers to “stay alert to their surroundings, and to report any suspicious activity.” Reports can be made to the state’s terrorism tip line at 1-866-SAFENYS.
