Despite Strong Showing, Imboden, USA Finish Without Medal

Olympic fencer and Park Slope resident tied 5-5 during his bout on Sunday afternoon.

But despite strong showing, and an earlier come-from-behind performance (45-39) over France, the USA men's fencing team ended up losing lost all nine of its bouts in the semifinal match against Italy, placing fourth, out of medal contention.

Team USA lost in the semifinals to Italy, 45-24, and also in the final match for the bronze, 45-24, against Germany.

Italy defeated Japan in the gold medal match, 45-39. Japan won the silver and bronze-medalist Germany.
