PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A much-loved eastern European gastropub Korzo, known for its deep fried burger, has suddenly closed up shop, according to its website.

No other information is given on their webpage, aside from a sentimental page featuring the lyrics to the West Side Story hit song "Somewhere."

Diners took to social media lamenting the loss of the neighborhood favorite operated for nearly 15 years by Slovakian couple Otto and Maria Zizak.

"Best burger ever," wrote one user on Facebook. Another added: "This is a disgrace to the neighborhood!"

Korzo offered unique showcase items that captivated hungry New Yorkers for almost two decades. The lángoš burger, a patty wrapped in a layer of Hungarian dough, then fried, and halušky dumplings, won the Zizak's enormous acclaim from gourmands all over.

According to city property records, the Zizaks sold the building Korzo was located in during the height of the pandemic, in August 2020, for $2.1 million.

They had purchased the three-story building at 667 Fifth Avenue, which also has two residential units, in 2006 for $879,000.

Records show that the buyer was Firebird Grove, a "next-generation real estate investment group," according to their website, best known for purchasing an entire street in Greenwich Village last March for over $32 million.

Neither the Zizaks nor Firebird Grove responded to requests for comment.

At one point, the Zizaks owned three restaurants in New York City, including a Korzo location in the East Village and Brooklyn Beet.

Last April, the Zizaks were announced to be the new owners of a Hopewell, NJ-based farm to table eatery called Brick Farm Market, according to ROI-NJ.com.

According to their current menu, it appears that the Zizaks have left their lángoš burger and halušky dumplings back in Brooklyn.
