Massive Science Fair Planned for Park Slope Armory This Weekend
The World Science Festival will feature tons of interactive experiments and exhibits for kids and adults alike.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — When was the last time you built a Galilean Cannon? If the answer is never, you may want to refresh your understanding of kinetic and potential energy.
The World Science Festival is bringing its free travelling interactive exhibit, "City of Science," to Park Slope this Sunday. (You can register online here.)
The event, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 16 at the Park Slope Armory (361 15th St.), is packed with hands-on experiments and exhibits exploring science, technology, math and engineering, according to organizers.

The day's offerings will include a "seismic accelerator" that propels objects into the air, a giant set of dominoes (some as big as seven feet) that you can stack and knock over, gravity demonstrations using marbles, a station where you can try to walk on water, and plenty of other activities to partake in.
The Festival has also put together a City of Science Activity Guide for families, allowing young scientists to dig into the universe's underlying principals. Did you know you can study Newton's third law of motion by hosting balloon rocket races, or explore sound waves by making a rubber band guitar, or make your own non-newtonian fluid using corn starch and water?

And as far as that Galilean Canon is concerned — don't worry, it isn't actually a cannon. It will, however, involve flying basketballs and tennis balls. Do it for science!
