PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Clinking glasses — or, rather, coffee mugs — have officially returned to the Seventh Avenue storefront once known as the "Cheers of Park Slope."

A new coffee shop has opened its doors at 312 Seventh Ave., which has stood empty since neighborhood favorite Old Carriage Inn closed in 2019.

The new cafe appears to be the latest location of Variety Coffee Roasters, though they have yet to add the Seventh Avenue location to their website.

Variety, which is based on Stagg Street, has five coffee shop locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan, including in Greenpoint, Williamsburg and Bushwick. This is their first in the lower half of the borough.

The company did not return a request for comment about the Park Slope store.

The Seventh Avenue storefront, which is found at the corner of Eighth Street, has stood empty since Old Carriage Inn closed its doors in March 2019.

The family-owned bar, which first opened in 1975, shut its doors after owners sold the building and couldn't afford to rent the space, they told Patch at the time. It was one of several longtime businesses that, even pre-pandemic, closed that year in the neighborhood.

Since then, the storefront has been under construction, building records show. Starting late March 2019 up until April of this year, owners filed permits to do work on the ground floor space, as well as on apartments on the second and third floor, records show.

The new Variety coffee is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to signs at the shop.
