New Italian Restaurant On Its Way To Brooklyn's Court Street

Four restaurateurs are planning to open the eatery where Fillippo's Cucina most recently stood, according to a community board presentation.

BROOKLYN, NY — A new Italian restaurant on its way to Court Street will be the first solo project for a group of New York City restaurateurs.

The four co-owners are getting ready to open an Italian restaurant in the 552 Court St. storefront that most recently held Fillippo's Cucina, which closed last year, according to a presentation with Community Board 6's Permits and Licensing Committee.

The new restaurant, Aromi, will bring classic Italian food and pizza to the space, owners said.

"[The owners] have worked in the industry for a combined 25-plus years," their attorney, Michael Kelly, told the board. "They found an opportunity in this place to fulfill their dream of having their own restaurant, and they bought it."

Owners include Alessandro Giannini, a manager from Fabbrica in Williamsburg and Manhattan eatery Il Brigante's Lorenzo Pizzoli, Andrea Grillo and Sarah El Gendi, records show.

Like Fillippo's, the new Italian restaurant will include eight tables, 16 seats and an eight-seat bar. There will also be nine tables and 18 seats in the backyard, according to the presentation.

Aromi will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 12 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The committee voted unanimously to support the eatery's liquor license application, which will head next to Community Board 6's general meeting. The application will ultimately be decided by the State Liquor Authority.

Aromi was one of two applications discussed at the committee meeting. The second, a tavern slated to take over the former Excelsior space on Fifth Avenue, also gained the committee's support.
