New Maintenance Compound Coming To Prospect Park

The city filed plans to build the $2.6 million building in the park to replace offices currently housed in the historic Tennis House.

PARK SLOPE, NY — The city filed plans to build a $2.6 million maintenance compound inside Prospect Park to replace offices currently housed in the historic Tennis House.

The two-story, 2,000-square-feet structure will be built at Prospect Park West and Seventh Street inside the park and will have offices on both floors with parking at the site, New York YIMBY first reported.

Crews from the park's Landscape Management and Maintenance & Operations units will move their offices from the soon to be restored Tennis House into the building, a spokeswoman for the Prospect Park Alliance said. The spot will also let the park remove storage containers along Center Drive.

The building will be modeled after existing historic structures inside the park, including a former stable and workshop, and the park expects construction to finish in 2019.

Last year, the park announced a $5.1 renovation project for the long-shuttered, 107-year-old Tennis House, which could reopen in 2021, DNAinfo reported. The new buildings are needed to relocate the offices currently in the Tennis House.

The money for the new building was allocated by former Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Brooklyn members of the city council, the Prospect Park Alliance said.
