Park Slope Grocer Back to the Land Closing After 47 Years: Report
The natural foods store, which has been on Seventh Avenue since 1971, plans to close on Sunday, Bklyner reported.

PARK SLOPE, NY — A natural foods grocery store that has been on Seventh Avenue for more than 40 years plans to close its doors for good after struggling to pay its bills, Bklyner reported.
Back to the Land Natural Foods will close Sunday because they no longer had enough cash to pay workers or suppliers for their 142 Seventh Ave. space, according to Bklyner.
The owner of the store did not respond to a request for comment about the closure.

Owner David Basham told the Brooklyn Paper that they tried to retool the store in 2016 to keep the doors opening after sluggish sales, but things never turned around for the neighborhood mainstay.
"Toward the end of 2016 and into 2017, it just became too much," Basham told the paper. "We all said, ‘What happened to all the people in Park Slope? Were did all the foot traffic go?’"

Back to the Land first opened a tiny storefront in 1971 then later expanded to three storefronts selling health food, organic produce, fresh juice and more, New York Magazine reported.
Basham told the Brooklyn Paper that several investors called up after hearing the news of the closing offering to step in and save the store, but nothing has been finalized yet.
