Park Slope Group to Host Open Discussion on Methodist Expansion

Preserve Park Slope, a community organization, is holding an open meeting on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at St. Saviors High School auditorium to "discuss quality of life issues relating to the proposed New York Methodist Hospital expansion project." 

According to the group, the proposed 300,000-plus square foot building would require the complete demolition of at least 15 period buildings on 6th Street, 5th Street and 8th Avenue currently owned by the hospital.

The proposed building is set to include a new surgery center, endoscopy suite, cancer center with chemotherapy and radiation oncology services and stand seven stories.

Construction is not expected to start for at least a year, but hospital officials will present the construction plans to Community Board 6 on July 11. 

This discussion comes at the same time many have been fighting to keep open the troubled Interfaith Medical Center in Bed-Stuy and Long Island College Hospital in Cobble Hill.
