Park Slope Sante Fe Grill Shutters After 38 Years In The Nabe
"The demands of this business are increasing dramatically. It's time," the owner wrote in a letter posted at the bistro.

PARK SLOPE, NY — The Santa Fe grill closed its doors this week after 38 years of slinging southwestern nosh in the neighborhood, according to a letter to the community posted at the bistro.
“The restaurant business has never been an easy path, but just as I want life to become a little less demanding, the demands of this business are increasing dramatically. It’s time,” wrote the restaurant’s owner Joesph McFeely.

The eatery opened on Union Street in 1980 before moving to its long-time home at 62 Seventh Avenue four years later, according to the owner. It was know for its Tex-Mex flare, boasting an array of tacos, fat burritos and colorful cocktails —some served in whole pineapples.

McFeely lamented leaving the Park Slope corner and thanked his loyal customers.
“We have grown up, raised families and grown old together. So many wonderful years — and it has been a privilege to be part of your lives, and you mine, for such a long time," wrote McFeely. "I have seen so many of you make major life changes over the decades and now, after 34 years, it’s my turn.”

Devastated locals posted memories and tributes to the neighborhood joint on social media.
"This was such a special, irreplaceable neighborhood spot — the best kind of restaurant, where there was always a table and some good salsa at the ready," said one Instagram poster.
"We delivered our first child this week and brought him home from the hospital on Wednesday. Margaritas and chimichangas were one of our first planned outings ... So sad our boy will not know SFG. Will raise a farewell margarita glass in thanks somehow."
McFeely did not immediately return a request for comment.
