Pig Beach Shuts Down Gowanus BBQ Spot

Six years of pigging out on the canal come to a close on Dec. 30, according to the BBQ joint's Instagram page.

GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — Say goodbye to BBQ, massive outdoor space and a beautiful view of the Gowanus Canal.

Pig Beach announced Wednesday on their Instagram page that the laid-back meat smoking joint will be closing up shop, with their last day announced as Dec. 30.

"Despite our greatest efforts, what has been our flagship home for the last eight years, was sold to a local developer," the post reads. The developer, Tankhouse and partner MacArthur Holdings, purchased the site as part of the Gowanus Rezoning, the post explains.

City property records show a sale back in September for $40.6 million. The property was last sold in 2014 for $12.3 million.

Pig Beach was a staple for many due to its massive outdoor space, but the restaurant hints that they are hoping to return to the location once the new development is built.

"In the meantime we're vigorously seeking out a new place in Brooklyn," the smokehouse wrote, "whether it be temporary or permanent, where we can light up our smokers again."

For those seeking BBQ near the canal, hungry diners will now have to trudge nearly three blocks to feast at longtime spot Dinosaur BBQ .

Pig Beach fans can check out their new locations in Queens or West Palm Beach, Florida.
