Police Blotter: Crook Swipes Wallet and $900 from Fifth Ave. Diner

Crook Swipes Wallet and $900 from Diner

A quick-handed crook snatched a woman’s wallet—filled with almost $1,000 in cash—after she left it on the counter of a Fifth Avenue diner on Nov. 8.

The 52-year-old victim told police that she was eating at Daisy’s Diner, between Ninth and 10th streets, when she went up to the cashier to pay her bill at around 12:10 p.m. while she was on the cell phone. Upon leaving, she noticed something fell out of her hand and didn’t see that she had left her wallet on the counter. When she realized she didn’t have her wallet, she went back to the diner but the cashier said she did not see anyone take it. The crook got away with seven credit cards, her driver’s license, social security card and $900 in cash. 

Friend Turned Foe in Third Ave. Burglary

A man entered a Third Avenue apartment to see a friend, but instead he stole a cell phone and then ran out on Nov. 9.

The 31-year-old victim told police that she let a man into her home, near Warren Street, who was there to see her brother at around 3:15 p.m. The friend-turned-crook is described as a black man, 22 years old, 5-foot-9 with curly hair and weighing about 170 lbs. After he came inside he said, “The hood is in the house.” He then followed the victim into her bedroom and stole her Blackberry out of her hand and then fled.

Crook Picks Lock at YMCA 

A thief picked a man’s lock in the locker room of a Ninth Street gym and stole his credit card and cash from his wallet on Nov. 10.

The victim told police that he placed his wallet and other belongings in his locker at the YMCA, between Fifth and Sixth avenues, at around 9 a.m. The lock was secured when he came back an hour later, but he found out that $40 cash and two credit cards were missing from his wallet. When he called his credit card company, he was told that someone had charged $500 while he was still working out at Home Depot.  

Man Steals Over $2K in Clothing from Friends

Three men were shopping together at a store on Flatbush Avenue when one man in the group drove off with over $2,000 worth of shoes and clothes on Nov. 10. 

The victims, two men who are friends with the crook, told police that they were shopping at Artum on Flatbush, between Bergen and Dean streets, when they returned to their car and placed the bags inside at around 2:50 p.m. The friend-turned-crook, a 19-year-old Hispanic man, standing about 5-foot-5, drove off with ten pairs of running sneakers and a $600 designer camouflage jacket for a total of $2,325. 

Purse Snatch from Ninth Street Bar

A thief snatched a woman’s purse from a Ninth Street bar and got away with her cell phone, cash and credit cards on Nov. 10. 

The 29-year-old victim told police that she went to Barbes, between Sixth and Seventh avenues, at around 10:30 p.m. She placed her purse in the corner and walked away. When she returned about 15 minutes later, her bag was gone. The crook got away with her Android cell phone, $40 in cash and three credit cards. The crook also charged $108 at the CVS across the street that night.
