Police Blotter: Mugger Punches Woman in Face on 8th Ave. for Purse

Woman Punched and RobbedÂ
A violent mugger punched a woman in the face, pulled her hair and robbed her for a designer handbag, two dresses, and car keys while on Eighth Avenue on Jan. 13.

The 29-year-old victim told police that another woman, whom she has never met before, started a fight with her while standing on the northwest corner of Eighth Avenue and 13th Street at around 12:25 p.m. The mugger, a woman about 130 lbs., standing around 5-foot-5, and had a tattoo on her forearm spelling “Xamoura”, punched her in the face and pulled her hair. The victim fell to the ground and the crook then robbed her. The crook, who was wearing a gray ski jacket and blue jeans, got away with a Gucci handbag worth $500, two dresses, and her car keys.Â

A thief snatched a woman’s wallet from a Union Street bar, getting away with cash, identification and credit cards on Jan. 13.
The 23-year-old victim told police that she was at Union Hall, near Fifth Avenue, but left her wallet after she left at around 3:30 a.m. She realized her wallet was missing when she tried to pay for a cab ride home to Manhattan. The crook got away with $30 in cash, her identification, a MetroCard, and credit cards. The crook also charged $79 to one of her debit cards. Â

The Jewel Burglar
A burglar stole over $100,000 in jewelry from a Union Street apartment on Jan. 11.
The 30-year-old victim told police that she left her Union Street apartment, between Fourth and Fifth avenues, at around 8:30 a.m. and didn’t return until 9 p.m. that night. When she returned, she found that a burglar had climbed through the back window and stole a pair of gold earrings worth $10,000; a 24 karat gold watch worth $40,000; a $50,000 emerald ring; and a prasiolite ring worth $3,000. The burglar escaped the apartment through the back window. Neighbors told police that they heard someone moving around in the apartment between 6:45 and 7 p.m.
No More Stereo
A thief broke into a man’s car parked on 11th Street and stole the entire center console, getting away with over $2,000 in electronics and cash between Jan. 11 and 12.
The 27-year-old victim told police that he drove his car to a bar on 11th Street and parked it nearby at around 8 p.m. The man then got drunk and took a cab home, leaving his BMW parked between Second and Third avenues. When he returned to his car the next day at around 11 a.m., he found that someone had broken into his car and stole the entire center console, Sony speakers and an amp, various CDs and $400 in cash.Â
