PARK SLOPE, NY — A popular Mexican seafood spot known for its coastal flavors is preparing to open a new location in Brooklyn’s Park Slope neighborhood.

While details remain scarce, the owners confirmed on social media that Mariscos El Submarino’s fifth location will open at 226 7th Avenue, between 3rd and 4th Streets, taking over the former Maya Taqueria space.

The brand, which first launched in 2020 in Jackson Heights, Queens, expanded to Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and more recently opened locations in Jersey City and, just this week, Clinton Hill at 507 Myrtle Avenue between Ryerson Street and Grand Avenue.

Mariscos El Submarino has earned acclaim beyond its neighborhoods, attracting attention from top food critics and earning a spot among NYC’s best restaurants in 2024. Known for delivering authentic Mexican seafood in a relaxed setting, the restaurant reflects the coastal flavors of Sinaloa, the home state of founders Amy Hernandez and Alonso Guzman.

While the menu features familiar staples like tacos and tostadas, the star of the show is the aguachile — a bold, citrus-marinated shrimp dish native to Mexico’s Pacific coast, typically served with red onions and avocado. Mariscos El Submarino also offers a variety of ceviches, including a tropical version that mixes shrimp and fish with sweet chunks of fresh mango.
