Prospect Park Gears Up For Spring With Opening Weekend Events

The park will kick off spring with a historic baseball game, a community fair, a grill out and more.

PARK SLOPE, NY — The Prospect Park Alliance will kick of spring in Brooklyn's backyard next month with a 1860s-style baseball game, scavenger hunt and more.

The park will host an opening weekend for the spring season with a series of events on April 7 and April 8 that includes parades, food festivals and one last chance to hit the ice at the LeFrak Center, according to the Prospect Park Alliance.

The weekend kicks on Saturday, April 7 for a baseball parade with local players from youth leagues followed by a "1860s exhibition game" by the Brooklyn Atlantics in historic uniforms, the park said.

The weekend will also have a grill out using produce grown by vendors in the park's Greenmarket, a free fair with music and food, a historical scavenger hunt in the park, bird walks and a "Campfire Conversations" community open mic, the Prospect Park Alliance said.

The opening weekend ends on Sunday, April 8, with a walking tour led by Turnstile Tours going through the park's natural and human history.
