Suspect Sought After Attempted Park Slope Sexual Assault

A 23-year-old woman fought off her attacker early Saturday morning, according to the NYPD.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Police are looking for a man (pictured above) suspected of attempting to sexually assault a woman in Park Slope early Saturday morning.

According to the NYPD, at about 4:40 a.m. on July 2, a 23-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of 7th Avenue and Garfield Place when the man approached her from behind, shoved her to the ground, and started pulling down his pants.

The woman threw her purse at the man, police said, at which point he fled in an unknown direction.

Detectives describe the man as 25-30 years old, standing about five-foot-eleven-inches and weighing approximately 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and black sweatpants.

This attack occurred in the NYPD's 78th Precinct, which covers Park Slope. According to official police statistics, through June 26, major crimes were collectively down about 15 percent in the 78th compared to the same time period last year.

Four sexual assaults had been reported by police during each period.
