Teen Steals Sneakers From Sellers In Park Slope, Police Say

The 16-year-old arranged to meet up with people to buy sneakers at the subway, but then swiped them from the sellers, police said.

PARK SLOPE, NY — A 16-year-old man was arrested after he arranged to meet up with people to buy sneakers inside a subway station, but stole them instead, police said.

The teen, whose name is being withheld because of his age, robbed two pairs of sneakers last week with an unidentified man from two sellers inside the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station after arranging a buy, the NYPD said.

On March 14, the teen and the man met up with a 36-year-old woman at about 11:33 a.m. to buy a pair of Yeezy sneakers from her, police said. They tried to give her $400 in counterfeit money, which she refused, then grabbed the bag from her hand and ran out of the station.

The pair went back to the station on March 18 to buy a pair of Adidas sneakers from a 27-year-old woman at about 4 p.m., police said. After trying on the shoes and giving them back, the victim put them in a bag which the 16-year-old grabbed and ran away with, authorities said.

The 16-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and charged with robbery, grand larceny and possession of a forged instrument by police.
