Access-A-Ride Van Hits Park Slope Pedestrian, Breaking Her Legs: NYPD
The 31-year-old was in the crosswalk at Union Street and Eighth Avenue when the driver slammed into her, according to police.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A woman is in critical condition with two broken legs after a driver in an Access-A-Ride van slammed into in Park Slope her Wednesday morning, police said.
The 31-year-old woman was in a crosswalk at Union Street and Eighth Avenue just before 6:30 a.m. when a driver of an Access-A-Ride paratransit service van crashed into her, officials said.
Both of the victim's legs were broken by the impact of the vehicle, and first responders rushed the injured woman Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in critical, but stable, condition, police said.

The 76-year-old male driver of the van remained at the scene, officials said.
Police could neither specify if the van was an MTA operated vehicle or operated by a subcontractor, nor where exactly the crash occurred in the frequently congested intersection.

Officials added that they also didn't know if either the driver or pedestrian had traveled against any traffic signals.
The MTA told Patch that they would be looking into the incident, but had no further comment at the time of publication.
Over roughly the last five years, the intersection has seen 62 crashes, resulting in 13 injuries according to Crash Mapper/DOT data.
