Bellport Man Charged With DWI After ATV Overturn Critically Injures Woman: Cops

The woman hit her head on the pavement and was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, Suffolk police said.

BELLPORT, NY — A Bellport man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a woman was critically injured when the ATV he was in overturned in Brookhaven on Saturday night, Suffolk police said.

Tayquan Mayodunmore was driving an ATV with a 26-year-old Medford woman as a passenger on Bellport Avenue, between Louise Avenue and Hampton Avenue, when it overturned causing Johnson to strike her head on the pavement at around 8 p.m., according to police.

The woman was airlifted by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, police said, adding that Mayodunmore was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he was treated for minor injuries and then released.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet, police said.

Mayodunmore, 29, was charged with driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and second-degree reckless endangerment.

He was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Sunday.

The ATV was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the 5th Squad 631-854-8552.
