Beware of What Friends Publish on your Facebook Page

Almost five years ago I published an article called “Is Facebook Your Resume?” Since that time many things have happened to validate my premise!

I now automatically evaluate Facebook pages of my friends and evaluate them with regard to helping or hurting their prospects of getting a good job. I also consider what my friends publish to my Facebook page. One cryptic comment by one of your friends could make an admissions officer reject your college application!

It is a common and acceptable practice for anyone to scan through your Facebook postings before information that will help them make a decision as to whether they will accept your college application, accept you into their organization, give you a job, give you a promotion, and even people that you are dating will use Facebook to get a true evaluation of you and your friends!

My father told me to be careful to “hang out,” with people that I admire; because with time I would “turn out” to be just like them! Decades later I have come to realize that Dad was absolutely right! For the last 50 years I worked at a graduate school… I did not pursue a Doctorate Degree but I found myself imitating the people that I so admire! College Admissions officers, and Human Resources also believe in this premise. You could lose the job opportunity of a lifetime because of something one of your friends writes to your Facebook page!

Yesterday ESPN Fired Analyst Curt Schilling for an Anti-Transgender Facebook Post. I personally think that he just stumbled on the “Goose that laid the golden egg! LOL! I am referring to the First Amendment Goose, called freedom of speech! As I understand… The Goose also quakes for freedom of the press! LOL!
