Bicyclist Critically Hurt In Long Island Crash: Police
He was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue in critical condition, as was the driver for evaluation, cops say.
NORTH BELLPORT, NY — A man riding a bicycle was struck by an SUV and critically hurt in North Bellport Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
A 44-year-old Bellport woman was driving a 2007 GMC Envoy northbound on Post Avenue when she apparently suffered a medical event and the vehicle struck a bicyclist crossing the road just before 2 p.m., according to police.
The bicyclist, a 57-year-old man from Brookhaven, was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue in critical condition, and the woman was also taken to the hospital, but for evaluation, police said.

Two passengers in the GMC were not injured, according to police.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.

Fifth Squad detectives in Patchogue are investigating.
The North Bellport crash was the first of three serious crashes over about 15 hours in eastern Suffolk County. A 41-year-old Shirley man was seriously hurt in a two-car crash in North Patchogue at around 12:35 a.m. Police are also investigating a hit-and-run crash in Bohemia.
