Forty-seven students took part, and two received $500 scholarships, Sheriff Errol Toulon says.

YAPHANK, NY — A group of Patchogue-Medford High School students on Wednesday became the first graduates of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Student Ambassador Program, officials said.

Forty-seven students took part in the inaugural program, engaging in discussions on public safety topics directly with law enforcement, while two were awarded $500 scholarships from Suffolk Credit Union in recognition of their dedication.

The program’s mission is to foster open dialogue between law enforcement and students, providing the sheriff with a candid understanding of issues affecting young people.
