LI Community Hero, Baton Twirler Cassandra Broadway 'Gives Back'

MEDFORD, NY — Without community leaders, Medford, New York wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions.

This submission comes from Paige Papile, a Medford reader who nominated Cassandra Broadway.

How do you know the community leader?

As the director of Titanium Twirlers, Cassandra has created a non-profit organization that brings the unique sport of baton twirling to young athletes across Long Island. Titanium Twirlers holds weekly, affordable, classes for children to help teach them valuable life lessons of teamwork, leadership, and the irreplaceable value of a strong work ethic, all while teaching baton twirling. Through Titanium, Cassandra has created a safe space for children of Suffolk County to be themselves, express themselves through the art form of baton twirling, all while creating healthy habits through a sport. Cassandra also encourages, and creates opportunities, for Titanium athletes to participate in various community service events to give back to their communities!

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?

Cassandra creates community service activities for Titanium athletes to participate in, to show them the importance of giving back to the community that supports them. In previous years, Titanium Twirlers have participated in food drives, coat drives, beach clean-ups, food pantry lunch collections and so much more. Cassandra does all of this purely out of her love and passion for the sport, and deserves to be recognized for her dedication to creating an amazing atmosphere for the youth of our community.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?

Everything that Cassandra does is motivated by her love and passion for the sport of baton twirling, and her desire to give back to the next generation of this unique sport. Cassandra's greatest joy is watching her Titanium Twirlers reach their goals, build life-long friendships, and go on to do amazing things after they graduate from being an athlete.
