Long Island Man Charged With Public Lewdness: Police

He is accused of exposing himself and committing a lewd act in front of a woman near a school, Suffolk police say.

PATCHOGUE, NY — A female employee of Long Island Head Start in Patchogue reported that a man in a nearby home exposed himself through a window and committed a lewd act while she was outside the school on Monday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

It happened at around 2:30 p.m. at the school's Church Street location, according to police.

Following an investigation by 5th Precinct Crime Section officers, Lawrence Gartner, 68, of Patchogue, was arrested on Tuesday at around 11 a.m. and charged with public lewdness, police said.

Gartner was released on a Desk Appearance Ticket and will be arraigned at a later date, according to police.
