Long Island Students Get Intro To Meterology From Weatherman John Marshall

The veteran newsman showed the students how to read weather on the green screen from his mobile broadcast studio.

BOHEMIA, NY — Students at John Pearl Elementary School in the Connetquot Central School District recently became weather casters for the day as part of meteorologist John Marshall’s “John’s Weather Tour!, district officials announced in a news release.

For over 25 years, John has predicted weather forecasts in the tri-state area, working on channels such as Fox Weather, CBS2, and WNBC Channel 4 in New York City.

During the assembly, students learned about types of weather and the differences, including hail, sleet, rain, tornadoes, and hurricanes, school officials said. Marshall also discussed his career and what it means to be a meteorologist by offering insights about the skills and equipment that he uses to predict weather, as well as how meteorologists collect and decipher weather data, according to school district officials.

He then invited student-volunteers to his mobile weather studio, which was equipped with green screen technology and the students learned how to read a forecast on the green screen, school district officials said.
