LIRR To Provide Extra Trains For Ryder Cup In Farmingdale

The Ryder Cup takes place from Sept. 23-28 at Bethpage State Park.

FARMINGDALE, NY — Golf enthusiasts, planning to attend the Ryder Cup, can take the Long Island Rail Road to Bethpage State Park.

Extra trains will be available for riders to the Farmingdale station from Sept. 23-28.

Upon reaching the Farmingdale station, fans will be able to use the complimentary shuttle buses provided by the PGA for the 15-minute ride to the main entrance.

“The Ryder Cup is bringing fans from around the world to Long Island, and the LIRR is the easiest way to be part of it,” said LIRR President Rob Free. “With plenty of fast, frequent service, fans can count on a reliable ride that gets them to and from the action. Whether you're a lifelong fan or first-time visitor, there’s no better way to experience this world-class event than with the LIRR.”

Up to 18,000 fans per day are expected to use the LIRR to reach the tournament. With no parking allowed at Bethpage State Park, or at Farmingdale Station, fans are encouraged to use the LIRR as the best way to avoid traffic and parking hassles.

The LIRR will provide eight extra eastbound trains from Tuesday-Friday, Sept. 23-26. Eight extra trains will head eastbound and one extra westbound train on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 27-28.

Eastbound riders to Farmingdale will depart from Penn Station, Grand Central Madison, Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola and Hicksville. Connecting service will be available from Brooklyn.

With no parking at the golf course, fans who travel by car must park at Jones Beach, then board shuttle buses. On weekends, Nassau County residents traveling east to Farmingdale can park at the Mineola Intermodal Center at Mineola Station. There is a fee to park at Jones Beach or the Mineola Intermodal Center.

Several sets of equipment will be staged on the branch to run as unscheduled extras when the event is over each day, the LIRR said.
