Man Fatally Shot During Long Island Street Fight

The shooting occurred early Saturday. No arrests have been made.

MEDFORD, NY – A 36-year-old man was shot and killed during a street fight in Medford early Saturday.

Sixth Precinct officers responded to multiple 911 calls regarding a large group of people fighting in the street in the area of Cedar Lane and West Lane at about 1:35 a.m., Suffolk Police said.

Darnell Smith, of East Patchogue, was shot.

Smith was transported by a private vehicle to the Coram Fire Department and then taken by ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

A GoFundMe has been started to raise money for Smith's family. He leaves behind children and a fiancée, the fundraising page says.
