Here are the 4 top stories today in Patchogue:

  1. Gov. Kathy Hochul is enacting a new mask mandate as COVID-19 cases surge across the state. The governor announced that businesses and venues will need to implement a mask requirement or require proof of fully vaccinated status. The new mandate starts Monday and remains in effect until Jan. 15. (News 12)
  2. Santa Claus is started his runs through the Patchogue Fire District this weekend. His first run was Saturday in the Northeast section. That will be followed by Monday and Tuesday in the northwest section, and then Thursday and Friday in the southeast section. His runs finish next Saturday in the southwest section of the district. The division line for the district is the four corners. You can listen for Santa and his escorts riding on the fire truck after 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday, after 3 p.m. (Patchogue Patch)
  3. It is on like Donkey Kong. Do the kids still say that? Nevertheless, people of all ages have been crowding this retro video game shop, Game On, since it opened last month at 12 South Ocean Avenue in Patchogue Village. The younger kids especially seem to be enjoying the throw-back experience, said manager Rob Maurus, who told us South Ocean Middle School students are a constant presence when school lets out on weekdays. (Greater Long Island)
  4. Lizbeth Carrillo was sworn in Tuesday as the newest, youngest, and first-ever Hispanic woman to sit on the Patchogue Village Board of Trustees. She is filling the vacancy left by Salvatore Felice, who resigned Dec. 1 after serving as a village trustee for a decade. Carrillo said she first learned the news a few weeks ago that she would be appointed. (Greater Long Island)
