This year's Patchogue Plunge is the village's second, and it's organized by the Patchogue Young Professionals organization. A 50/50 raffle will be held at the event, with winners announced at a defrost party at the Tap Room right after the plunge.

All proceeds will support the Gabby Petito Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit aimed at helping organizations that locate missing people and assist domestic violence victims.

The foundation was created by the parents of Long Island native Gabby Petito, who was found dead after she went missing while on a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend.

"We wish to turn our personal tragedy into a positive one," Patchogue Plunge organizers wrote on Facebook. "It is our hope that Gabby's foundation will bring these important issues to the forefront of the public eye to the benefit of all our communities."
