YAPHANK, NY — What's it really like to work in the Suffolk County Sheriff's office?

What are the perks? Is there a downside to the job? Have you ever had a really scary moment?

Those are some the candid queries you will be able ask at a question and answer event later this month at the department's correctional facility in Yaphank. Sheriff Errol Toulon is opening the facility's doors to the public on Oct. 22 as part of ongoing efforts to attract talent, officials said Wednesday.

The event will offer "a new perspective" on career paths within the sheriff’s department and will include personal presentations from correction officers and deputy sheriffs of different ranks and units, according to officials. In addition to highlighting the diverse opportunities in the department, the office will allow participants to ask candid questions about the careers and benefits of the job, officials said.

The event will begin at 6 p.m and light refreshments will be served.
