Hudson Valley Jobless Rate Still Under 4 Percent: Report

The hottest job sector in the past 12 months has been private education and health services, state labor department officials said.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The unemployment rate in the Hudson Valley continues under 4 percent, according to the newest data from the New York State Department of Labor.

The jobless rate in June 2024 ticked up very slightly year-over-year in the region's metro areas:

In fact, all of the state's metro areas had unemployment rates under 4 percent except New York City, where the jobless rate was 5.3 percent, unchanged over 12 months, according to the report.

New York State's private sector jobs (not seasonally adjusted) increased by 108,600, or 1.3 percent,
over the year in June 2024. Private education and health services jobs saw the biggest increase, about 5.6 percent over the year.

Labor force statistics, including the unemployment rate, for New York and every other state are based on statistical regression models specified by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. These are the most up-to-date estimates of persons employed and unemployed by place of residence. Estimates are available for New York State, labor market regions, metropolitan areas, counties and municipalities with population of at least 25,000.
