Obituary: Retired Orangetown Police Chief Kevin Nulty
He spent 43 years with the department, rising through the ranks to chief before retiring in 2019.

ORANGETOWN, NY — Former Police Chief Kevin Nulty has died, the Orangetown Police Benevolent Association announced. He was 68.
Nulty joined the department as an officer in 1976 and rose through the ranks. He became chief in 1987. He retired in 2019.
"For 43 years he served our community proudly, with 23 of them being chief," a union statement said. "Our membership sends our prayers to his wife Ann and his family during this difficult time, and our condolences to those who knew and loved him."

When he retired, Nulty told The Journal News that police work was the only career he ever considered. His father and grandfather served with the NYPD.
Nulty's family moved to Pearl River when he was 1. He went to St. Anthony’s Elementary School in Nanuet and Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia. He graduated from SUNY Oneonta and earned a master's degree in criminal justice from LIU-CW Post College, TJN reported. He served on the board of directors of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police and was its president twice.
